Ski holidays Bad Mitterndorf - winter sports and relaxation in the Salzkammergut!

Bad Mitterndorf

Bad Mitterndorf lies at an altitude of approx. 812 m, in the famous Styrian Salzkammergut, approx. 100 km from Salzburg. The small town counts around 3,060 inhabitants and was first mentioned in 1147. These days, Bad Mitterndorf is known as a traditional winter sports resorts, but also as spa and health resort. The Vitalhotel Heilbrunn and the Grimming-Therme (thermal pool) offer day visitors a threefold spa experience ("Heiltherme – Heilmoor – Heilklima", which includes baths, moor packs and climate therapy). The Grimming , by the way, is a massive, 2,351 m-high mountain, only a few kilometres away from Bad Mitterndorf. The Kulm in Tauplitz is also worth visiting, as it is the third-largest ski jump in the world.

The region holds a lot of sports and leisure time offers available, which can include cross-country skiing, winter hiking, ice skating, tobogganing, ice climbing and curling - only to mention a few. If you are in the area around the 5th of December, it is highly recommendable to go an see the traditional "Nikolospiel" - a traditional play which is shown and unchanged since 100 years.

Styrian Salzkammergut

The Styrian Salzkammergut - comprising the Ausseerland and Hinterberg Valley - is a region with upholds lots of charm and tradition. Folk music, dance and costume play a large role here. Many resorts in this area can still proudly present hand-made crafts, such as textile printing, custom tailoring, leather trouser crafting and hat crafting. The beautiful and diverse landscape with various valleys, the Traun river bed, many lakes and mountain peaks - such as the dominant Dachstein massif and the Totes Gebirge (dead mountains) - make this a unique place to visit.
