Ski area Hochkönig
From Bischofshofen, it is only 11 km to Mühlbach, where winter sports enthusiasts can access the Hochkönig ski area (2,941 m). With 120 km of perfectly groomed pistes, 8 km of ski routes and 34 modern lifts and cable cars, the child-friendly ski area offers snow fun and guaranteed snow for every winter sports fan. The most difficult piste is the 1 km long Hochmais run, which promises pure adrenaline kicks! There are also challenging slopes in Maria Alm, on the Aberg-Langeck (1,900 m). Freestyle fans can enjoy themselves in the snow park with tables, slides and jumps on the Aberg. There are also some great freeride options to inspire. A ski bus runs between the individual areas, which is free of charge for lift pass holders.
Another real highlight is the Königstour, a wonderful ski circuit that is one of the longest in the Alps. With a total of 35 kilometres of continuous pistes, the route can be explored in just one day and is therefore ideal for day trips with the whole family. For over ten years, the multi-award-winning Königstour, which links the Mühlbach, Dienten and Maria Alm ski areas, has been one of the most popular in Austria.
And winter sports enthusiasts who want to share their fun on the slopes with the rest of the world are in good hands on the Hochkönig. Numerous Wi-Fi hotspots in the ski area provide a free internet connection - for example in fun parks, at lift stations and in huts.
Night skiing Bischofshofen
Skiers who still want to hit the slopes after dark are best off travelling from Bischofshofen to Maria Alm (35 km). The Simmerllift operates there several times a week in winter for night skiing. A special highlight is the snow show in the "Magic Area", which takes place every Tuesday from 21:00 from the end of December to mid-March. Visitors can marvel at ski formations, freestyle events, a torchlight run and fireworks. Admission is free.Après ski Bischofshofen
Those who prefer things a little quieter will find culinary highlights and traditional specialities such as Wiener Tafelspitz, roast lamb with dumplings or hearty Kässpatzen in the numerous rustic restaurants in the region, including in Bischofshofen. The mountain huts in the ski areas also invite tired winter sports enthusiasts to linger.
The region around the Hochkönig also offers plenty of variety away from the pistes. For example, you can explore the snow-covered landscape on 85 kilometres of winter hiking trails. Snowshoeing is also an exciting way to explore the winter wonderland - there is even an educational snowshoe trail for beginners in Mühlbach. In Bischofshofen itself, you can take a leisurely walk along the Salzach river. A total of four toboggan runs await toboggan fans in the ski areas, including a floodlit run on the Grüneggalm. And for those who prefer a cosy après-ski experience, there are romantic horse-drawn carriage rides through the idyllic winter landscape as well as relaxing hours in the indoor pool, curling in Dienten or ice skating in Maria Alm.
Snowpark: Kings Park Maria Alm Bischofshofen
There are three different snow parks in the Hochkönig ski area. However, the most famous is probably the "Kings Park". The area stretches over 1.8 kilometres and starts directly at the mountain station of the 8-seater gondola lift "Kings Cab". The setup is impressive: Boxes, butter boxes, jibs, kickers, rails, jumps, tubes and special obstacles leave nothing to be desired, whether beginner or freestyle pro.
The two other snow parks that round off the freestyle offer on the Hochkönig are the "Snowpark Natrun" at the Simmerllift, which is more suitable for beginners or children with easier obstacles. As well as the "Livingroom Snowpark" in Mühlbach, which is freshly shaped every day at the foot of the Mandlwände at an altitude of 1,500 metres and therefore appeals to advanced freestylers in particular.
For the youngest ski freestylers, there is also an 850 metre long funslope with tunnels, wave curves and small jumps on the Aberg. All in all, the Ski amadé ski region with its 10 snow parks is an absolute freestyle Eldorado!
