Ski area Hochkönig
52 km of pistes are marked blue, which makes them perfectly suitable for less skilled and pleasure skiers. Intermediates will get their money's worth on the 41 km of red pistes, and a total of 27 km of black pistes challenge experienced skiers. The hardest piste is the 1 km Hochmais-piste (No. 31), and a highlight for fast skiers is the Marlies-Schild-FIS-racing piste. - The training area is the popular Dienten ski racer's preferred piste. It is located on an altitude of 1,120 m at Natrun nearby Maria Alm.
The "Königstour" is a wonderful ski route in Hochkönig ski region. On a length of 35 km, it leads over five mountains and is one of the longest ski rounds in the Alps. It is possible to ski the tour in about one skiing day, which makes it a good option for a day trip with the whole family. "Königstour" connects the ski areas of Mühlbach, Dienten and Maria Alm (since 2012) and was awarded the best ski circuit in 2014. Since the winter season 2018/19, the mountain local to Maria Alm is also connected to the main skiing area in am Aberg: with this, a direct ski in/ski out connection from Maria Alm to the Königstour is now possible
You want to share the experiences and impressions you collected during your day on skis with your family and friends? No problem! The Hochkönig ski area offers numerous free Wi-Fi hotspots in funparks, liftstations and mountain huts. The "Kings Cab" gondola at Kollmannsegg (1,848 m) was the first Austrian mountain railway to provide Wi-Fi.
Night skiing Dienten
Night skiing is offered several times a week in Maria Alm on the Simmerl lift. A spectacular snow show also takes place once a week. The ski instructors from the local ski schools entertain the spectators with formation runs, freestyle and torch runs. The whole thing is accompanied by a music and light show. The show ends with a firework display.Après ski Dienten
All in all it is quite relaxed after skiing, as watching, enjoying and being comfortable are the centre of attention. Those who want to stay active will still find many options on the snowy alpine pastures in and around Dienten: 85 km of winter hiking paths are cleared regularly, and various snow shoe hiking trails with lengths between 4 km and 12 km lead to the surrounding Alpine meadows. In Mühlbach there even is an educational snow shoe trail, where beginners will find basic tips and useful hints for successful snow shoe trekking.
You prefer having a goal on your hikes? Geocaching is an exciting option! Several "treasures" are hidden at Hochkönig, especially on the Königstour trail. GPS-devices, treasuer maps and coordinates are available at the tourist office. If you want to explore the winter scenery around Hochkönig in a more relaxed manner, you could go on a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Curling is possible on the curling place in Dienten, and a free ice skating rink can be found in the neighbouring resort Maria Alm.
The Hochkönig ski region also offers a total of four toboggan runs. An especially attractive run is located in Dienten: on Grüneggalm above the valley you will find an 1.5 km trail suitable for young and old. It offers a great view of Hochkönig, and is illuminated until 23:00 in the evening. Hiking up to the start of the toboggan run at the mountain hut takes approx. 40 minutes.
Whether you prefer being cosy, sociable, getting active or just relaxing, every type of leisure time activity is available in Dienten and the surrounding areas.
Snowpark: Kings Park Snowpark Dienten
Hochkönig ski area puts forward three snowparks. One of the highlights is "Kings Park" at the 8-person gondola "Kings Cab". The park is starts right next to the mountain station and offers a great set-up on a length of 1.8 km: boxes, butter boxes, jibs, kicker, rails, jumps, tubes as well as special obstacles leave nothing to be desired, whether you are a beginner or a freestyling professional! After a long and demanding ride, you can relax with Wi-Fi connection in the Kings Cab gondola before you start another line.
Apart from this top park, there are two more freestyle treats to enjoy: "Livingroom Snowpark" in Mühlbach, situated on an altitude of 1,500 m at the foot of Mandwände, is freshly shaped on a daily basis, and its beginner and advance line offer different types of challenges. The park offers mirrors, lifecams as well as a neat sound system. You can watch your own rides accompanied by great music, and even analyse everything online afterwards. Additionally, boarders and freeskiers can take part in a professional coaching once per week, for a small surcharge.
"Snowpark Natrun" at Simmerl lift offers easier obstacles and is suitable for beginners or children.
