Ski holidays Virgen - Relax amongst the castle ruins and the peaks of East Tyrol!
Virgen
The sun-drenched village of Virgen lies in the heart of East Tyrol, in the valley of the same name, at an altitude of 1,194 m. In winter, the "Sun Village" is not only home to over 2,200 residents, but also welcomes visitors from all over the world, who can relax in the shadow of the south-facing peaks of the Lasörling Group. In the Hohe Tauern National Park, visitors are also captivated by the wild scenery of the River Isel and the Isel Gorge, spanned by a suspension bridge at a height of 90 m. Virgen itself is a peaceful village with a well-maintained centre, featuring the parish church, the Maria Schnee pilgrimage church in Obermauern and the ruins of Rabenstein Castle as a striking landmark. During the winter months, winter sports enthusiasts can also look forward to 21 km of groomed cross-country trails, a floodlit natural toboggan run and the varied slopes in the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei ski area.East Tyrol
The idyllic holiday resorts in East Tyrol are surrounded by the magnificent backdrop of the Venediger group, Lienz dolomites with the two largest mountains in Austria, and the natural landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Enthroned in the middle of the 3 thousand metre mountain range is the impressive Großglockner (3,798 m), Austria’s highest summit, and Großvenediger (3,674 m) over the region of East Tyrol – mountain scenery second to none! Thanks to the impressive glacier, East Tyrol offers one of the most snow-sure ski areas in the Alps, which is also somewhat sheltered from mass tourism and chaos. Tourers will also appreciate the conditions around the Großglockner. Alongside fun on the piste, you can toboggan to your heart’s content, hike through the winter landscape or relax in the indoor pool. At the end of a long day on the piste, you can spoil yourself with the regional specialities on offer in the many restaurants and Gasthöfe.Getting to Virgen
