Ski area Galibier Thabor
Endless snowy slopes with dreamy pistes for carving and skiing spread out above the mountain village of Valmeinier at Les Gros Crey. The largely undeveloped slopes on the opposite side offer fantastic opportunities for deep-snow skiing. Snowboarders will find a daily-prepared snow park with a half-pipe and a boardercross section at Crey du Quart near Valloire. If you just can't part from your skis for the day, you can enjoy some night skiing at Valmeinier 1800. The ski region's altitude (70% lie above 2,000 m) and 400 snow-making machines ensure the highest degree of snow-reliability.
But the ski area also has a lot to offer for families. Dodge the numerous obstacles in the "Valkid" or lean gracefully into the snowtubing turns.
Looking for even more variety? Orelle, located just 18 km from Valmeiner, offers the perfect entry to the Val Thorens ski region, the centre of Les 3 Vallées. This day trip to the largest ski region in the world should not be passed up!
Night skiing Valmeinier
Night skiing is a popular leisure-time activity in France. Like this, skiing fun does not end in the family-friendly and versatile ski area Galibier Thabor in the evening. On the Valmeinier side of the valley there is a small but nice night ski area that invites you ski outside the regular lift operation times by night-time. In Valmeiner 1800, for example, an approx. 600 m piste is illuminated by floodlight. The 4-person chairlift Pré Aynard goes up to 1,949 m to the start of the intermediate piste that leads all the way down to the valley station. Actually, it nearly ends on the doorstop of the local pubs and bars! From Valloire on the other side of the ski area, night skiing enthusiasts can take a connecting lift to the night skiing piste. The ski bus takes you back to Valloire via the 10 km mountain road afterwards.Après ski Valmeinier
Additionally, there is an open air ice rink and you can explore nature on numerous hiking paths around the villages in your winter boots or - during a guided tour - on snow shoes. Further off piste leisure activities include a bowling alley, a tobogganing run, or ice-fall climbing. And for all those who can't get enough of skiing during the day, can also go night skiing twice a week (depends on season).
Snowpark: Lac de la Vieille Valmeinier
One of the best snow parks in France, both for beginners and pros, lays in the ski area of Galibier-Thabor, and is called "Snowpark du Lac de la Vielle". Located on the Crey du Quart, the park can be found at the "Chateau Ripaille" lift, between 2,200 and 2,400 m altitude - more or less right between Valmeinier and Valloire. The park offers everything a freestyler may dream of. Various rails and kickers of the 4 levels of difficulty: green, blue, red and black.
In addition to the Easy and Medium zones, the Expert zone with big airs and handrails awaits the pros among the riders. The boardercross course in the "Lac de la Vieille" Snowpark is also suitable for beginners.
If you want to relax a bit between the rides can cool down in the chill zone, with the right music of course. If you're lucky you can pick up something to eat from the BBQ. This snow park is certainly worth a visit!
