The region around the Zugspitze offers a total of 130 kilometres of cross-country trails. Garmisch-Partenkirchen itself has 28 kilometres of cross-country trails, Grainau another 12 kilometres. These also include some skating-style trails. Beginners will find easier and more scenic trails in the area around Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Those who are new to Nordic skiing have the opportunity to take cross-country skiing lessons.
All holidaymakers looking for a special challenge should definitely try the 42 km cross-country trail via Kaltenbrunn and Barmsee to Krün! There are night trails in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (1.5 km) and on the Krepbachloipe in Grainau (1.2 km).
