Just a few kilometres east of the South Tyrolean capital of Bolzano, Cornedo all'Isarco extends into the Val d'Ega. The municipality of Karneid consists of several small villages, including Kardaun in the Bolzano valley basin, where the municipal seat and town hall are located. The municipality is named after Cornedo all'Isarco Castle, which towers over the villages on a steep rocky hill.
