Ski area Rienz - 3 Zinnen Dolomites

The "3 Zinnen Dolomites" lift pass opens up around 114 kilometres of piste. The 3 Zinnen Dolomites region stretches between the towns of Sesto, San Candido, Dobbiaco, Villabassa and Braies. It comprises several smaller, cosy ski areas that offer an impressive variety. Gentle slopes offer ideal conditions for families and beginners, while varied descents are suitable for connoisseurs and advanced skiers alike. Demanding pistes such as the Raut and the famous Holzriese challenge even experts - the latter is one of the steepest pistes in Italy with a decline of 71%.

The local ski area Rienz-Toblach (Dobbiaco) has a total of 3.9 km of pistes at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,410 metres.

The largest range of descents can be found in the ski area around Helm, Stiergarten, Rotwand and Kreuzbergpass with around 86 kilometres of piste. Particularly sporty challenges await below the imposing Croda Rossa/Rotwandspitze, while the Croda Rossa/Rotwandwiesen boasts a race course with timekeeping. During certain times of the season, you can start the day from 7.30 am on perfectly groomed pistes.

Another highlight of the ski area is the Reinhold-Messner-Haus. It is a unique place where the exhibition of mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner tells every detail of the story, experience and vision of a true legend of alpinism.

The local ski area of San Candido offers around 12.6 km of pistes in all levels of difficulty. Thanks to its manageable size, the family-friendly descent to the valley and the possibility of night skiing, it is particularly suitable for families and connoisseurs. The smaller ski areas of Braies and Padola - Ski Area Comelico are also part of the network.

Rules of conduct on ski pistes in Italy

If you need a little refreshment after night skiing, you can stop off at the Riese-Haunold-Hütte and enjoy a meal with regional specialities and drinks.

Après ski Rienz - 3 Zinnen Dolomites

After skiing, the family-friendly resort is rather quiet. Nevertheless, you can end the day in the rustic huts, numerous restaurants and cafés.

For those who want to be active after skiing, a trip to the two-kilometre-long toboggan run in Dobbiaco is well worthwhile. There are other routes in San Candido and Sesto. Ice skaters get their money's worth on the ice rink in the sports zone. Things are a little quieter on the winter hiking trails around the village. From there, you can enjoy the marvellous view of the Dolomites and especially the Three Peaks in peace and quiet. You decide how strenuous you want your hiking tour to be. There are flat paths across the valley floor, but also hikes lasting several hours up to 1,650 metres. Another option is snowshoeing, which you can do on your own or as part of a guided tour. A horse-drawn sleigh ride is even more cosy.

Snowpark Rienz - 3 Zinnen Dolomites: Family Fun Slopes

In the 3 Zinnen Dolomites ski area near Sesto, there are Family Fun Slopes on the Croda Rossa and Monte Elmo mountains, which combine elements of a snowpark with a family-friendly character. These fun slopes focus on variety: steep turns, waves, snow tunnels, bridges and a spiral "snail" provide fun, games and small challenges - ideal for families and recreational skiers who already have some experience but are not looking for big freestyle features such as half-pipes or big kickers.

There is a Kids Ski Cross course in the Haunold local ski area and the Shaka Snowpark in Rienz - however, the two facilities are not directly connected via the pistes.
