Ski area Fanningberg
Mariapfarr's home ski area is the family mountain Fanningberg. The pistes on the wide slopes are between 1,497 m and 2,115 m high and are served by five lifts. With the lift pass you can ski 30 km of pistes, 13 blue, 7 red and 10 black. The ski area is manageable and family-friendly, but thanks to some difficult steep slopes and a race track, it is also varied enough for advanced skiers. One of the two 6-seater chairlifts rises to Fanninghöhe, the highest point in the skiing area at 2,115 m. From here a 1 km long ski route leads down to the Zirberl hut.
For the next generation of skiers, the Funny Kinderpark offers a lovingly designed practice slope with a magic carpet and fairytale figures. Several rustic huts and mountain restaurants with sun terraces invite you to stop off at the edge of the piste. Some innkeepers serve fresh, farm produce and regional schnapps. Thanks to the extensive snow-making facilities, snow is guaranteed throughout the season in the ski area. At Fanningberg there is also an 8 km long toboggan run, which starts at Gamsstadl.
In Katschberg itself, the ski swing Katschberg/Aineck offers a total of 70 km of pure piste fun at an altitude of 1,640 - 2,220 m. 17 modern lifts transport you quickly and comfortably up the mountain, long waiting times or unnecessary queues are unknown here.
The Grosseck-Speiereck ski area in St. Michael offers 50 km of varied pistes and 12 lifts. A special highlight here is the valley descent from Speiereck to St. Michael, with a length of about 8.5 km. The area is ideal for families with children as well as for demanding skiers. Twice a week the fun on the slopes is extended into the evening hours.
Après ski Mariapfarr
In the Lungau and therefore also around Mariapfarr, guests can expect relaxing winter sports in all its facets. Those who are not looking for classic après ski parties can go on a snowshoe hike, go on a ski tour or whiz down one of the two toboggan runs on the toboggan. The Liegnitz toboggan run, which can be up to 2 km long depending on the snow conditions, is located at the Wielandhof snack station. In the evening it is also illuminated. In the Fanningberg ski area, another 8 km are planned for tobogganing at Gamsstadl. Mariapfarr is also the starting point for four winter hiking routes, which are between 2.5 km and 14 km long. With its 4 km and information boards on the way, the sun trail, which is easy to walk, is particularly suitable for families. Horse lovers will feel particularly at home in Mariapfarr: Several riding stables offer horse-drawn sleigh rides and rides in the snow.
Those who prefer to travel with several horsepower can complete a winter driving training in several places in the Lungau. In the driving exercises the drivers learn how to control the vehicle on a slippery road and in the snow. This is a worthwhile investment for drivers who drive in the mountains.
For a relaxed change of pace or in bad weather, a visit to the SAMSUNN Vitality and Wellness Centre in the village is worthwhile. A 1800 m² spa area with a sauna landscape awaits guests here. An ice skating rink is available free of charge next to the Samsunn. There is only a fee for rental skates.
Snowpark: Snowpark Mariapfarr
Unfortunately there is no snowpark at Fanningberg. But there are other fun areas nearby. In the Katschberg-Aineck ski area there is a small but fine ensemble of obstacles and a halfpipe. The next bigger fun park is in the ski area Obertauern (about 24 km away from Mariapfarr).
