Ski area Obertauern
The high speed chair lift Schaidbergbahn is in operation since 2014 and offers heated spaces for six persons at a time. The lifts were built all around the modern ski village and form the two round courses "Rote-Tauernrunde" and "Grüne Tauernrunde". Thanks to this smart design, you are right in the middle of it all within just minutes. Just a stone's throw from the accommodations, you reach the mainly blue and red pistes, reaching your starting point again in no time.
Beginners will find the slopes at the Schaidbergbahn and the Plattenkarbahn paticularly suitable. Pros, on the other hand, should try the famous but notorious Gamsleitenspitze. This deep black piste counts among the steepest mogule pistes of Europe.
Freeriders as well as freestylers will definitely get their money's worth in Obertauern. The fun park just above the Kehrkopf - the snowpark "The Spot" - is a dream for all that are looking for a bit of action.
The little ones will find perfect conditions to practise here. Whether they join one of many ski and snowboard school, the ski kindergarden or take advantage of professional child care - the children are well looked after everywhere. A major highlight for the little ones is the ski-ghost ride at the Schaidberg: a 30 m long wooden tunnel with glowing faces and according noises. Then there is also the "Bibo Bär" Family-Skipark where three pistes are specially offered for children and beginners only.
Another highlight are the free Wi-Fi hotspots that can be found all throughout the ski area. Additionally, the new and free app "iObertauern" provides lots of useful infos that are sent through straight to your smartphone.
Night skiing Obertauern
Do you want to go skiing under the stars? Obertauern is just the right place for you, as you can go night skiing every Monday and Thursday. Night skiing takes place the the 4-person "Edelweiss" chairlift and is suitable for all skiers and snowboarders who have not yet spent enough time on skis during the day. The floodlight system was build only for the purpose of night skiing and it illuminates the piste on a length of approx. 1.5 km. - A wonderful spot to enjoy fun on skis on the glistering snow by night time. It does not matter if you are a beginner or an experienced skiers - night skiing is a special experience for every winter sports enthusiast.Après ski Obertauern
Iconic après ski can be had on the mountain at the Edelweiss hut and in the evening at the Lürzer Alm and the Latsch'n Alm. If you prefer it more modern, then the "Peakini Klubhaus" or "Monkey's Heaven" are ideal. On top of that, regular concerts take place in Obertauern.
If you're up for a more sporty evening, then the leisure centre Gnadelnalm has lots on offer: there is a 1.5 km lit toboggan run, a natural ice rink, horse-drawn sleigh rides or snow shoe hikes. Trend sports like snow biking or snow kiting should be tried out here. The sports centre Obertauern also offers football, tennis, billiards, fitness and the like.
Snowpark: Snowpark The Spot Obertauern
Not only diverse pistes and plenty of après ski possibilities, but also the wide range of freestyle offers make this ski area a great one.
Apart from the freeride offer, that gives you possibility to shoot off into all directions, the snowpark "The Spot" just waits for you to be hit. There is a true freestyle paradise at the 4-chair lift Kehrkopf.
Two different areas, the upper and the lower park simply wait for you to come and shred. Three lines with obstacles and easy kickers, flat, rainbow and kinked boxes, straight and donkey pipe lines as well as a 6 m wall ride, just wait for beginners to come and have a go.
At the upper park, pros will find great jib elements, boxes, kickers and in good snow conditions also a powder kicker. Come and have your adrenaline kick!
