Ski holidays Spittal an der Drau – skiing above the lake!
Spittal an der Drau
To the one side of the town lies the beautiful Carinthian mountain landscape, to the other lies the Millstätter Lake, and right through the town runs the river Drau. In the heart of Upper Carinthia lies the resort Spittal an der Drau, which is known as the cultural centre of the region. However, Spittal is not only popular with the culturally interested, but also with winter sports enthusiasts. The resort offers perfect access to the Carinthian ski area Sportberg, at the Goldeck. And not only that: the town also offers a diverse activity programme. Those who like being outside in the fresh air can enjoy a stroll along the snowy shores of the lake, or can grab some snowshoes and discover the wonderful mountains round about.
Drautal
The Drautal, or respectively Spittal an der Drau is the largest district in Carinthia - even larger than the federal state of Vorarlberg. Spittal is characterised on the one side by the high mountains of the Hohe Tauern with their numerous 3,000 m peaks (the highest in the country), and on the other side by the plateaus of the Upper Drautal. The Millstätter Lake and the Weissensee lake are two of the four large lakes in Carinthia and are found in this district. All these factors make this area a real paradise for active travellers with many different activities to try out - be it hiking, skiing, cross-country or ice skating. There is a sport here for everyone.Travel Spittal an der Drau
