Ski holidays Oberhof - winter paradise on the Rennsteig!
Oberhof
The state-recognised climatic health resort of Oberhof lies at an altitude of 800 m in the middle of the Thuringian Forest. It has enjoyed an excellent reputation as a winter sports centre for years and has become particularly popular for its biathlon and ski jumping. Every year, the world's winter sports elite gather here for training and competitions. In 2008, Oberhof even hosted the Luge World Championships. The region around Oberhof is also an Eldorado for cross-country skiers. The famous Rennsteig trail, for example, stretches 168 kilometres through the Thuringian low mountain range and offers fantastic conditions for fans of the Nordic discipline and hikers. A visit to the DKB Skisport-Halle Oberhof is also highly recommended. This is the first cross-country skiing hall in Germany and offers a 1.2 km circuit with ascents and descents with gradients of up to 12 per cent!
Thuringian Forest
In the heart of Germany lies the Thuringian Forest, a largest forested and hilly area in the federal state of Thuringia. The approx. 150 m long and 35 km wide terrain around the Rennsteig is ideal for a short break and some easy skiing. Wonderful nature, clear air and beautiful winter landscapes are waiting here for you, in the western part of the area, near Neustadt. Let yourself be inspired by the pretty castles and fortresses and wander on the paths of ancient poets - the German masters of literature, Goethe and Schiller, both spent time in this region. Snow-covered forests and volcanic rock has formed this area to make it what it is today and will surely entice you with its beauty.Travel Oberhof
