The Lienzer Dolomites offer cross-country skiers a lot of space with 100 kilometres of cross-country trails, which are designed both for classic skiers and for skaters. The routes are almost all in the basin and are mostly easy to moderate. The best-known route in the Lienz Dolomites is the 35 km long Dolomite cross-country trail, which is mainly flat and has short climbs. The trail starts in Lienz and leads via Amlach and Tristach to Nikolsdorf and from there back again. Every January the famous Dolomite run with cross-country skiers from over 30 nations takes place here.
